Pleased to meet you!

Me in the old cathedral.
This is my first post as Patron of Reading for Sidney Stringer Academy, Coventry. Once the new term begins in September, I'll be blogging regularly about anything and everything to do with books, authors, reading, schools, libraries, reviews and so on.

Please stop by and find out what's new and happening - and share your views too.

I'm planning on running competitions for Sidney Stringer students, so make sure you don't miss out on competition news.

So, I was very pleased to be asked by Sidney Stringer librarian, Linda Clapham MBE if I would be the school's POR. Naturally I said YES!

I'm really hoping to get to know everyone at Sidney Stringer Academy, but I imagine many of you won't know me, so here's a little information:

I'm a Coventry author. I was born in Coventry, grew up in Coventry, went to school and work in Coventry - and I still live in our beautiful city.

The schools I attended were All Souls Primary School in Chapelfields and Cardinal Wiseman Grammar School in Potters Green.

The companies I worked for are no longer there. The first place I worked after leaving school was Wickman Machine Tools in Banner Lane, Tile Hill. Although the offices are still there being used for different purposes. (I was an office junior and then I worked in the cashier's office). My next job was at British Leyland at Canley and at Fletchamstead Highway where I was a secretary.

My office at the Coventry Telegraph
More recently I worked at the Coventry Telegraph as a feature writer. My particular jobs were to write about food & drink, gardening, pets (Pet SOS) and family days out.  No wonder I loved my job!

I've written about 22 books so far. I write for children, teenagers (young adults), reluctant readers and adults. My books tend to be mystery, adventure, thriller stories.

At the moment I'm writing a psychological thriller, a crime story, an historical romance, and a children's novel. I like to have lots of different things on the go!

I also write magazine articles on all sorts of topics including dogs, toys, collectables, travel, gardening and lots of other things.

Some of the magazines I've written for.

Please say 'Hi' to me if you spot me in your school. And feel free to share your thoughts on this blog.
Also my website will soon have it's own POR pages. (I'm still working on that!) But in the meantime, pop along to my website and see what's there.  http://www.annevansbooks.co.uk
